Preparing Your Journey...

Rajasthan is the best state in India for shopping. That is not a tourism claim — it is a fact built on geography, history and three centuries of craft tradition. The state has more artisan communities, more specialised markets, and more categories of hand-made product than anywhere else in the country. A Jaipur shopping tour alone covers gem cutting, block printing, blue pottery, lac bangles, leather footwear, miniature painting and marble inlay work — each from artisans whose families have worked the same craft for generations.
This page covers what to buy in Rajasthan, the best shopping markets in Jaipur and across the state, and how our guided shopping tour works.
Rajasthan's craft tradition grew from a specific historical condition. The state was a collection of royal courts, each with patronage networks supporting specialist artisans — jewellers, weavers, block printers, potters, painters, stone cutters. The courts competed for the best craftsmen. Over centuries, those craft traditions concentrated into specific cities and markets, passed down through family lines.
The result is that when you buy a Kundan necklace in Johri Bazaar in Jaipur, the family selling it has been making Kundan jewellery for four or five generations. When you buy block-printed cotton in Sanganer, the workshop producing it has been printing the same patterns for 200 years. This depth of craft is what makes shopping in Rajasthan different from buying tourist souvenirs anywhere else. You are buying from the source.
For travellers from Europe and America, Rajasthan also offers price points that simply do not exist at home for this quality of hand-made product. A hand-block-printed cotton tablecloth set in Rajasthan costs a fraction of what the same quality would cost in a European home goods market. Gemstones cut in Jaipur — the world's gem cutting capital — sell at direct workshop prices before any Western retail markup.

Rajasthan offers one of India's richest shopping experiences, from world-famous gemstones and hand-printed textiles to traditional footwear and handcrafted décor. Every region has its own speciality, making shopping an unforgettable part of your Rajasthan journey.
Jaipur is one of the world's leading gem cutting and trading centres alongside Antwerp and Bangkok. The city is famous for authentic Kundan jewellery, Meenakari work, and a wide range of precious gemstones including rubies, emeralds, sapphires, garnets, and tourmalines. Shopping in Johri Bazaar offers excellent value, while a guided gem tour helps you buy from certified and trusted traders.
Sanganer and Bagru are Rajasthan's most famous centres for traditional block printing. Skilled artisans use hand-carved wooden blocks and natural dyes to create beautiful cotton fabrics, scarves, bed linen, kurtas, tablecloths, and home décor. A visit to these workshops offers an authentic experience and is a highlight of our textile shopping tours.
Bandhani is tie-dye fabric — the pattern is created by tying thousands of tiny knots in cotton or silk before dyeing, then untying them to reveal the pattern. Leheriya is a diagonal stripe resist-dye technique unique to Rajasthan, traditionally associated with the Teej festival in Jaipur. Both are found at Bapu Bazaar and Kishanpole Bazaar in Jaipur. For Bandhani in its most concentrated form, Jodhpur and Barmer in western Rajasthan also produce outstanding examples.
Blue pottery is one of the most recognisable products of Jaipur and one of the most unusual craft forms in Rajasthan — it is not made from clay but from a mixture of quartz, glass and sodium, fired at low temperatures and painted with cobalt blue and turquoise designs in the Persian tradition. It was brought to Jaipur by Mughal artisans and is now unique to the city. Blue pottery tiles, plates, bowls, vases and decorative items are among the most popular things to buy in Jaipur for international visitors.
Rajasthani leather footwear — mojaris and juttis — are hand-stitched shoes in embroidered leather that have been made in Jaipur and Jodhpur for centuries. The soles are typically camel or buffalo leather. The uppers are embroidered with silk thread, mirror work, or gold and silver embroidery. Bapu Bazaar and Nehru Bazaar in Jaipur carry the widest selection. Jodhpur's Mochi Bazaar near the Clock Tower is the best source in western Rajasthan.
Rajasthan is renowned for its rich handicrafts, including marble inlay work, wooden lacquerware, hand-painted miniature paintings, traditional Kathputli puppets, and beautifully crafted brass and bronze décor. These authentic handmade creations showcase the state's centuries-old artistic heritage and are among the finest souvenirs to take home.
Every shopping tour is designed to help you discover authentic products, visit trusted artisan workshops, and shop with confidence while learning the fascinating history behind Rajasthan's famous crafts.
